PITBULL 101

PITBULL CARE 101

-Feed your dog grain free dog food and fresh water daily!

A dog's digestive system is not designed to handle grains. We recommend Taste of the Wild grain-free.

-Provide toys to chew on

Provide durable toys to chew on. We recommend Kong Extreme. This makes it less likely that the dog chews on furniture and your personal items etc. It also keeps your dog's teeth clean and healthy.

-Crate training is a must while the dog is young

Crate training is an essential part of housebreaking puppies, as dogs don't like to soil their sleeping quarters. They learn to hold their bladder while they're in their crate, so you won't have to clean up messes.

-Allow your dog to exercise

Allow your dog to run around the yard from time to time or take your dog for a nice walk.  This keeps your dog in good shape, and they love to explore!

-Keep your dog dewormed and vaccinated

Keeping your dog free from parasites and viruses is vital to its long-term health and happiness. Dogs must be dewormed every 3 to 6 months. Vaccinations must be done every 1-3 years. Keep records of deworming and vaccinations in a safe place.

-Use tick/flea protection in the summer

We recommend using K9 Advantix II for tick, flea and mosquito protection in the summer.

-Never yell at or strike your dog!

Yelling at your dog or striking them will make them fear you, and not come to you when called. When your dog does wrong, quickly tell them "no" and put them in a crate/cage as time out. If your dog is particularly difficult to deal with, one week of proper training will drastically change things for the better. Proper dog training must be performed by a professional and requires the use of prong collars. CT Pitbulls performs Pitbull training at a discounted rate for our puppy customers!
